Can The Kingdom Save Itself By Firing Mohammad Bin Salman
1933, the Arab American Company (ARAMCO) started exploring Saudi Arabia for viable pipeline placement. The Kingdom’s newest ally, United States, had the greatest military in the world…the Sheiks could witness a future amongst the Middle East as the dominant force. After World War II when fascist Italy attacks an oil production building in Northern parts of the country, it saw the country desperate for military defense. As World War II progressed, the United States began to believe that Saudi oil was of strategic importance. The two diametrically opposed countries were in a trade-off, Saudi Arabia would have the might of the American military, while Saudi Arabia gave them oil barrels at a reasonable price. In 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared that “the defense of Saudi Arabia is vital to the defense of the United States”. The relationship would prove valuable for Saudi Arabia.
Fast forwarding to 2018, current day, the United States now pressures the current Crown Prince, Mohammad Bin Salman, to properly investigate the death of a U.S.-Saudi citizen…a troublesome journalist for the Kingdom and one whom has openly criticized Bin Salman for advocating a civil war in Yemen…Jamal Khashoggi, who was once a “friend” to another Saudi extremist….Osama Bin Laden. Khashoggi had met a grisly fate….kidnapped in the Turkish Saudi Embassy and dismembered alive. With the eyes of the world watching, the Saudi Kingdom had adamantly denied Khashoggi was even dead. Until the evidence was so overwhelming, they admitted he was killed in the consulate, but by “rouge” elements. Numerous transgressions in the Kingdom since Bin Salman’s ascension had caught the unwanted attention from too many countries which are seen as viable assets.
Leading to the pertinent question. Will Mohammad Bin Salman’s father, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (King of Saudi Arabia) fire his son in order to save the country from a falling out with the United States?
